VoIP questions, answered

Everything you're wondering before you switch to managed business VoIP. Don't see your question? Ask us directly.

What is VoIP and how does it work?

VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) carries your calls over the internet instead of traditional copper phone lines. That lets one business number work across desk phones, computers, and mobile apps, with features like smart routing, voicemail-to-email, and business texting built in. New to the term? Can I keep my current phone number?

In most cases, yes. Number porting moves your existing number to the new service so customers keep dialing the same one. We manage the port for you; timelines depend on your current carrier, so tell us your numbers and we'll confirm what to expect. See our guide to porting your number.

What happens to my phones during an internet or power outage?

Because VoIP runs over the internet, it depends on your connection and power. We turn that into a strength by setting up failover so calls automatically forward to a mobile phone or another location if a site goes down — so you keep taking calls instead of going dark.

Do I need special equipment?

Not necessarily. You can use mobile and desktop apps with no hardware, use supported desk phones, or connect certain existing analog phones with an ATA (analog telephone adapter). We recommend the right mix for how you work.

How fast can we get set up?

App-based setups can often be live quickly, while porting existing numbers takes longer depending on your carrier. Because we handle configuration and call-flow design for you, most of the work happens before go-live so the switch is smooth.

How much internet do I need for VoIP?

Voice calls use very little bandwidth, so most modern business or home connections handle them easily — the bigger factors are a stable connection and a well-configured network. We review your setup during onboarding. See how much internet you need for VoIP.

Is call quality reliable?

With a solid internet connection, VoIP delivers clear, dependable calls. During setup we review your connection and configure the system for quality, and failover keeps you reachable if something goes wrong.

Can it work across multiple locations?

Yes. We can route a central number to the right site or give each location its own line with shared handling, so multi-site and multi-property operations stay organized under one system.

Do you support business texting (SMS)?

Yes, on plans that include SMS capability. You can send and receive texts from your business number for confirmations, reminders, and quick customer questions — keeping them off personal phones.

What kind of support do you provide?

Limited Lime Connections is a managed service. We design your call flow, configure the system, and support the setup — so you get a professional phone system without turning communications into an IT project.

How is VoIP priced?

Plans are priced per endpoint (a device or app registration) with a one-time managed setup fee. See full pricing or read how VoIP pricing & endpoints work.

How do I get pricing for my business?

Tell us how many users, lines, or endpoints you need and how you operate, and we'll recommend a plan and send firm pricing. Request a quote any time — we usually respond the same business day.
